about the Middle School

The time spent in Middle School is a unique period of student growth and development. The Peninsula School program is designed to extend students' academic skills, promote personal development and encourage attitudes of responsible citizenship thorough a variety of learning experiences. This includes interdisciplinary learning across the academic and Personal and Social Learning.

Our teaching philosophy and practice is based on the understanding that during these years students undergo significant physical, emotional, social and academic development. The diversity of curricular and co-curricular activities available to students enables them to accept increasing levels of responsibility for their own learning and behaviour.

All students in the Middle School are required to have a notebook computer. Information & Communications Technology is integrated into all areas of the curriculum. Students are able to access their assignments and homework online via our own intranet, ‘Learning Point’. This learning management system allows parents, too, to keep track of their child’s deadlines and assignments.

There are many opportunities for students to experience leadership challenges within the Middle School. At Year 7 and Year 8 students will work across a number of specific briefs and assist in a range of activities. All students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills in our Personal and Social Learning as they work towards achieving the Middle School Leadership Certificate.

fifty years of outstanding education

All members of our community - past, present and future - were invited to join us as we celebrated fifty years of outstanding education on the Mornington Peninsula. We had a host of Golden Jubilee events during 2011.

Junior Gymnasium

Our new Junior Gymnasium is now open, much to the delight of our younger students and our PE staff. The ECC students literally squealed with delight when they used the building for the first time, while the Junior students were impressed with how light and spacious the building is.
