As students enter the Senior School they begin the last phase of their secondary schooling. It is a time when students need to prepare for life after school, whether that is full time employment, tertiary education or an apprenticeship.
The majority of our students undertake tertiary education when they leave Peninsula. Preparing for the VCE and this further education pathway is therefore a major focus during the final years.
Students in the Senior School are encouraged to make the most of their individual strengths and abilities. Students are presented with an environment where they are able to achieve their highest potential in academic, sporting and artistic endeavors. Within this supportive, structured environment we aim to produce independent learners who are well prepared to cope with future challenges and the world beyond school.
Pastoral care continues to be a feature of school life, with senior students programs on drug education, sexual health, study skills, driver education, community service, course selection, career guidance and surviving life after school.
There are many leadership opportunities for senior students. Our Prefect group comes from the Year 12 cohort. These students are the designated leaders of the school body and, although they are appointed to specific portfolios, they are expected to exercise leadership in all areas of the School community.
Year 10 and 11 students elected to formal positions of leadership plan activities for their year level, many of which are the students’ own initiatives. Other opportunities for students to display leadership are offered in the School’s extensive co-curricular program in sport, outdoor education, music, drama and debating.
