Swine Flu – updated 16 June

11/06/09 - General

I am able to report a growing number of students who are exhibiting Type A flu symptoms. Predictions suggest that we should expect many more cases in the next few weeks.
The Health Department is no longer requiring schools to close and those students who have been diagnosed with swine flu are now permitted to return to school after 3 days at home during which time they will generally have commenced a course of Tamiflu. Siblings of affected students may continue to attend school as normal.
The recommended 7 day exclusion period following travel to the USA, Canada, Japan, Panama or Mexico still remains. The cooperation of affected families is much appreciated.

Junior Gym receives Federal funding

10/06/09 - Junior School

The School has received funding under the Federal Government’s Building Education Revolution program for a new Junior School Gymnasium.
The new building, which will be a double basketball court size, will be located between the existing Gate 2 and the Junior School pool. It will also provide much needed change room facilities for the junior pool. It will serve the Junior School and the ECC during the day, and the wider School sport program after 3.30pm. It will also be available to the community after hours.
The Federal Government grant is for $2.5million. The School will contribute additional funds to refurbish the junior pool, construct several showcase netball courts on the area in front of the Tuckshop and improve car parking and traffic flow.
Gate 2 will be permanently relocated further up the hill to where Gate 3 currently is. This change and a dedicated right turn lane in Wooralla Drive will reduce some of the school pick up and drop off congestion in this area.
The construction works will commence during the coming holidays and there will be significant traffic changes from the beginning of Term 3.
There will be fewer car parking spaces available in Wooralla Drive, although this will be slightly offset when the Performing Arts Centre is completed at the end of July. The School will be as proactive as possible in dealing with the issues that arise and we seek your assistance in reducing parking demand by considering:

  • Car pooling
  • Changing your drop off and collection times
  • Using other drop off points elsewhere in the School

There was a recent minor accident in the Junior School car park because of incorrect parking. Families will need to take extra care during the construction period.

  • Park only in designated bays
  • Do not block traffic
  • Take care when reversing

The Junior Gymnasium is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2010 school year. It will be a difficult period, but it will certainly be worth it once the project is completed.
