The new senior centre

Our much awaited new Senior Centre has now risen from the ground overlooking our athletics track and North oval. Due to open by 2014, this new landmark building will boast 20 state-of-the-art classrooms and a cafeteria which will seat 250 students and staff.

Much attention has been given to the need to address modern teaching and learning styles. The building will have a tertiary feel; with the corridors lined on one side by glass walled rooms and on the other by break-out spaces that will promote both collaborative and individual learning. A sizeable space has been devoted to a silent study area.

Once completed, our Year 11 and Year 12 students will have a wonderful facility in which to learn and study and from which they will be able to enjoy views which will extend out over Port Phillip Bay.

Construction update - April 2013

172 construction days have been completed, with the project now at 60% completion.

The stripping of the formwork under the poured concrete is continuing and as a result the Mechanical services and Electrical trades have been able to install significant elements of the duct work and electrical cable trays. Both these trades are ahead of their schedule and the major mechanical components for the air-conditioning have delivered onsite and are being installed within the plant rooms at the northern end of the building.

The School project team have evaluated all the fitting and materials schedules necessary at this stage to ensure the project proceeds to schedule. The Audio-Visual requirements are being finalised by the School at present.

The brick laying team is now on site and working in earnest and the effect of the new brickwork colours matching the R.T. Hille Performing Arts Centre can now be seen.

THE MONTH AHEAD
Over the Easter holiday school break, several activities will be scheduled while the students are off campus. Chief amongst these is the installation of the mains power supply wiring from the new building to the switch board outside the old Gymnasium.

Total contractors onsite has increased to an average number of 25 per day with a peak load of 33 on one occasion. A new site shed has been added within the last few weeks to cater for the increased number of workers. The additional contractors are placing pressure on the parking lot at Gate 7 and student parking has again had to be relocated to the Detmold parking area and to the area adjacent to International House. This arrangement will need to be in place for the remainder of the construction project.

fifty years of outstanding education

All members of our community - past, present and future - were invited to join us as we celebrated fifty years of outstanding education on the Mornington Peninsula. We had a host of Golden Jubilee events during 2011.

Junior Gymnasium

Our new Junior Gymnasium is now open, much to the delight of our younger students and our PE staff. The ECC students literally squealed with delight when they used the building for the first time, while the Junior students were impressed with how light and spacious the building is.
