One of the more interesting observations I make early in the school year as I get older, is that students in the primary years actually look forward to returning to school by the time the January break is over!

The parents of many Junior School children express surprise at this, based in part on their own experiences some twenty or more years ago. This is a growing phenomenon that reflects the advances in curriculum design, presentation and the broader school program. Children, for the most part, enjoy their learning, are engaged in the programs, like to be challenged and thoroughly immerse themselves in the plethora of co-curricula activities available.

The strong culture for success in the Junior School is reflected in the “Have a Go” attitude adopted by students and encouraged by teachers. Students are challenged to do their best at every opportunity. Teachers structure all activities to allow for individual levels of attainment and progress.

I invite all parents to be active members of the learning partnership of their children, here at The Peninsula School.

Water winner - Georgia snaps up a prize

26/10/09 10:20 - General

Georgia Wiggs, a Year 11 student of The Peninsula School has won a national 2009 Savewater Awards photographic
competition with her stunning image ‘Keep Water Usage on Your Mind’.
The competition encourages students and adults to portray their thoughts about and awareness of water
conservation. Georgia was one of seven Victorians among the 13 finalists in three categories, which
indicates the impact the drought has had on our consciousness.
Georgia took a photo of her younger sister Hannah (Year 8 at Peninsula) and one of a bowl with water
being poured into it and merged the two using PhotoShop.
“It’s not as hard as most people think,” said Georgia. “I’ve always been interested in photography, but
this interest has really taken off in the past two years.”
Georgia is currently undertaking a project called 365 Days on Flickr with the aim of expanding her portfolio
by taking a photograph each day.
Georgia received a Nikon digital camera for winning the secondary school category of the photographic
competition, plus an iPod Shuffle for making it to the finals. The Peninsula School received $1000.
Georgia’s image will appear in a range of promotional materials for the Savewater Alliance. Go to:
