At Year
7 our
pastoral
program
theme is
connectedness
and via
orientation
activities
and
attending
Glenmaggie
camp
early in
the year
our
students
establish
themselves
within
the
school
and are
exposed
to new
learning
styles.
Each
student
selects
and
researches
a
historically
important
individual
and then
presents
their
findings
‘in
character’.
Students
learn
the
skills
of
researching,
summarising,
documenting
the
important
and
relevant
information
and then
expressing
it all
in their
own
words.
During
term
three
students
are
given
the
responsibility
and the
time to
work
freely
and at
their
own
pace,
together
with
students
from
other
classes
and
using
all of
the Year
7
teachers.
The
notables
arrive
in
costume
and
character
with
support
material
and
decorations
for pin
boards,
typical
food,
and
pre-prepared
open
ended
questions.
Several
hundred
parents
and
friends
then
have the
opportunity
to meet
and
question
our
Notables.
It is a
most
enjoyable
evening
that is
shared
by
several
generations
of
student
families
and is a
definite
high for
Year 7.
Night
of the
Notables
In
Semester
2 the
Year 7
cohort
works
across
all
disciplines
on a
project
“Night
of
Notables”.
It is
multi
faceted
and
concludes
with an
evening
presentation
to
parents
and
friends
where
the
students
portray
their
choice
of
notable
character.
In the
past
this has
been an
enjoyable
but
quite
demanding
exercise.
Each
student
selects
and
researches
a
historically
important
individual
and then
presents
their
findings
‘in
character’.
It
allows
students
to
display
their
skills
of
research,
writing,
presentation,
drama,
costuming
and
organisation.
In the
past the
school
community
has been
impressed
by the
work
completed
and
display
on the
evening.
Dates
and
plans
are
advertised
in
E-News
close to
the
event
with the
preparation
beginning
in Term
3 and
the
students
presenting
their
work
early in
Term 4.
