Welcome

Drama
Each year the Middle and Senior schools combine to stage at least one major drama production beyond the studio productions performed by our senior drama students. The whole community looks forward to seeing our actors, singers and dancers ‘strutting their stuff’ on stage supported by our very talented musicians. The professional quality of these productions over the years accounts for our undeniable reputation for excellence in the performance area. Recent major productions include: Grease, Beauty & The Beast, Cabaret, Fame, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, Sweeney Todd and Grease.

Productions are selected to stretch the skills of the performers and usually contain a cast in excess of 60 members. Supporting those on stage there is a large crew working behind the scenes and honing their skills in the myriad of jobs required to present a professional production. The talents of students involved in set construction, costume design, production artwork, publicity, sound, lighting and staging never fail to impress the audience.

The Junior School stages a Musical Production every two years in The Ansett Hall. This provides opportunities for selected students in Years 3-6 to increase their skills in singing, acting and dance. Taken from the Broadway Junior range, our recent productions have included Guys and Dolls, Annie and Aladdin.

All students in Years 3-6 are also provided with opportunities on stage, with the recent inclusion of a Junior School House Music competition. Students participate in two songs in their House group. A highlight of this program is our cross-age tutoring with Year 9 and 10 Leaders.

Similar on-stage opportunities occur in the Junior School where the emphasis is on involving as many students as possible in the joy and challenges of live performance.

In our Early Childhood Centre, Grandparents and Friends Day provides our youngest students with an exciting performance opportunity.

Dance

Various styles of dance including contemporary and classical are being explored in a co-curricular program to enhance and challenge the abilities of our most dedicated dance students.

We have highly qualified and experienced staff running the program who attained their Bachelor of Education majoring in Drama and Dance. The Dance teachers have taught extensively both in Australia and overseas and are trained in various styles from classical to contemporary.

Students learn to develop their ability to use shape, form, timing and pace to create meaningful work whilst keeping fit and having fun. The benefits of Dance cannot be underestimated for both the body and mind and we look forward to its continual development in the co-curricular area with a view to introducing Dance into the mainstream curriculum in the future.

The contemporary dance production, which is staged year, encourages student choreography and performance at the highest level. This program continues to develop and allows our dance students an avenue to produce dance concerts and compete in various eisteddfods and competitions. We are excited by the many talented dancers we have at Peninsula and always look forward to their creative performances.
