Peninsula has a strong tradition of musical performance, as evidenced by the vast number of students participating in the School’s choirs, orchestras and ensembles. Judging by the international success of many of our past students, there is no limit to which our musically talented may rise. Performance opportunities abound for our music students including lunchtime concerts, school assemblies, performance evenings or festivals. Music opportunities exist at various levels:

Bands and Orchestra
 

Grainger Band is our beginner ensemble for wind, brass and percussion players ranging from Year 3 upwards.
      
Concert Band for more accomplished players ranging from about Year 7 upwards.
      
Stage Band performs in the jazz style with players ranging from about Year 7 upwards.
      
Symphony Orchestra for the full range of instrumentalists with experience, usually Year 7 upwards.



String Ensembles
 

Corelli Strings this ensemble is for beginner string players from Year 3 upwards. 
      
Paganini Strings for more competent players ranging from about Year 5 to Year 8.
      
Chamber Orchestra our Senior string ensemble but also includes some Junior School musicians.



Small Ensembles
For more experienced performers, these include Clarinet Ensemble, Sax Ensemble, Jazz Flutes, Brass Ensemble, String Quartets, Percussion Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble.


Choral Program
 

Strauss Choir is for all students in Grades 3 and 4.
      
Britten Choir for all interested singers in Grades 5 and 6.
      
The Chorus singers from Years 7 to 12 participate in this ensemble, where there is a focus on singing in harmony. The repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary and this is Peninsula’s premier concert choir.
      
Prelude   a small chamber-type choir of auditioned singers from Years 9 to 12 who perform a range of vocal material.



Private Tuition

Students have opportunities to learn an instrument, or voice from qualified, specialist teachers throughout their school career. Weekly lessons are taught as a withdrawal from class within the school day and are subject to a fee. Instruments are available for hire from the school also for a nominal fee.
