Peninsula has an enviable reputation in sport, across a wide variety of events.
Our Junior School boasts an exciting Physical Education program that offers a rich diversity of physical activities and aims to provide each child with an understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, making sound nutritional choices and establishing a lifelong involvement in sport.
Years 2 - 4 students focus on motor skill development, fundamental ball skills and the many components of fitness. In Years 5 and 6, students are challenged to build on these skills in a variety of game situations that are then further extended in the sport program. Special cross-age events such as tabloid sports day and football day allow students to work alongside each other in a sports-related range of fun activities.
The Sports Program combines House Sport, AGS sport and the varying levels of sport within the Victorian Primary Schools Sports Framework. This includes athletics, cross-country, swimming, netball, soccer and football.
Enrolment at Peninsula assumes a commitment to our compulsory sporting program. For students in the Middle and Senior schools this means they will be available to represent the School on Saturdays.
Students in the Middle and Senior schools compete in the winter and summer competition organized by the Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria. Swimming and Athletics seasons also form part of our program. Significant emphasis is placed on team commitment, skill development and sportsmanship. Our AGSV Sports program largely runs on Saturday mornings. All students in Years 7-12 are required to be involved in our summer and winter competitions.
Many students develop a real love of sport and take their commitment to a physical lifestyle into their adult years. Camaraderie, teamwork, school spirit, leadership opportunities, discipline and lifelong friendships are founded in our sports program. Saturday sport may take some time from a weekend but, in return, it provides a lifetime of value.
